Manipur: RIMS restricts outsider entry after student allegedly attacked on campus

Imphal, Oct 2 (UNI) The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has condemned an alleged attack on a BDS student by an unidentified person while she was jogging inside the campus at around 5:30 pm today.
According to RIMS authorities, the individual, whose face was allegedly concealed by a mask and hoodie, approached the student and attempted to strike her with a hammer.
The student reportedly managed to evade the blow and escaped without sustaining serious injuries.
Following the incident, the student and RIMS authorities lodged separate FIRs with the concerned police authorities for investigation and necessary action.
RIMS said it views the incident seriously and expressed concern over the safety and security of students on the campus.
The institute termed any act threatening the safety and well-being of students, staff and other members of the RIMS community as unacceptable.
As an immediate security measure, RIMS has restricted the entry of outsiders into the campus for jogging, recreational activities and other non-essential purposes after 5 pm until further notice.
The administration has also advised all RIMS staff members to carry and display valid institute identity cards while entering and remaining on campus to facilitate identification and strengthen security.
RIMS urged the public to cooperate with security personnel and comply with the revised entry restrictions.
Students and staff have also been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or unidentified persons to security authorities immediately.
The institute said it would take all necessary measures to strengthen campus security and prevent recurrence of such incidents.
