Manipur scribes continue stir, to appear before probe panel

Imphal, June 6 (UNI) A team of journalists who were stopped by troops while going towards Ukhrul to attend the Shirui festival will appear before a two-member probe panel formed by the state government on Saturday.
The media organizations in Manipur called a stir by boycotting the Governor, central, state government, and security personnel, related news after a vehicle carrying journalists was stopped by personnel of 4 Mahar Regiment and forced the occupants to delete the words Manipur State Transport on May 20 last.
The Chief Secretary of Manipur clarified that no order was given to do such an act, and a probe will be completed soon. The report of the enquiry was scheduled to be completed by June 5.
However, due to the flood crisis, the media bodies decided to start reporting on government officials related to the flood and other emergency services.

All Manipur Working Journalists Union and Editors Guild Manipur have asked all journalists to cover news related to emergency services in the backdrop of the situation, as against the present boycott of government-related news by AMWJU and EGM.
So far none of the news related to the Governor, officials, or security personnel has been reported by the media.
Meanwhile, the two media bodies said the Inquiry Committee set up by the government has failed to submit its report within 15 days as stipulated in the government order dated May 21, 2025.
The AMWJU and EGM appealed to the Manipur government to expedite the Inquiry process as soon as possible, and justice was delivered so the media bodies may lift the boycott, which is not in the interest of the general public as well as the media fraternity.
