Mega mock drill on earthquake preparedness to be held on June 6 in Kangra district: ADM

Dharamshala, May 27 (UNI) A mega mock drill to prepare for earthquake emergencies will be conducted across all sub-divisions of Kangra district on June 6, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADM) Shilpi Bekta announced.
The announcement was made during a one-day workshop organised at the NIC Auditorium by the Disaster Management Authority. The session focused on outlining the framework and action plan for the upcoming mock drill.
ADM Bekta stated that the objective of the drill is to evaluate and strengthen coordination, readiness, and responsiveness among various departments, agencies, and the public in the event of a natural disaster such as an earthquake. She emphasised that the mock drill would also serve as a practical assessment of emergency services, rescue and relief operations, and the availability of critical resources.
Highlighting Kangra district's location within seismic zones IV and V, she said the region is highly vulnerable to earthquakes. “The state as a whole is also prone to other types of natural disasters,” she added.
ADM Bekta noted that this mega mock exercise will not only prepare participants to deal with earthquakes but also enhance preparedness for other natural calamities. She urged all stakeholders to ensure their active participation in the drill to achieve its goals and objectives.
“This exercise will provide the state with an opportunity to review its disaster preparedness and strengthen its capacity to effectively respond to earthquakes and other emergencies,” she said.
