MHADA orders action on rehabilitation tenements during 21st Lokshahi Din

Mumbai, Sep 17 (UNI) The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority held its 21st Lokshahi Din at its headquarters in Bandra East, with Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Jaiswal, IAS, hearing two grievances related to rehabilitation housing.
The first case was brought by one Rukhsana Begum over a rehabilitation tenement to be allotted by a developer under a Slum Rehabilitation Authority scheme. The tenement was to be provided in exchange for a hutment at Mateshwari Housing Society in Jogeshwari West, which was in her husband’s name.
Begum told the authority that the rehabilitation tenement had been encroached upon and sought its eviction and allotment in her favour. After hearing the matter, Jaiswal instructed the authorities concerned to carry out joint eviction action from Tenement Nos. 413 and 605 in accordance with directions issued by the Apex Grievance Redressal Committee.
Jaiswal also ordered another hearing at his level on September 22. The Deputy Collector of the Special Cell of the SRA, the Competent Authority, the Land Manager of the MHADA Mumbai Board, and the applicant have been directed to remain present during the hearing.
The second grievance was submitted by Chandrakant Chavan, who sought possession of his rehabilitation tenement in an MHADA cess building at Prabhadevi. Chavan stated that although redevelopment of the building had been completed, the developer had not handed over possession of the rehabilitation tenement.
In this matter, Jaiswal directed that a special hearing be held on September 29. Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the developer, and the applicant concerned have been asked to attend the proceedings.
The hearing was conducted as part of MHADA’s 21st Lokshahi Din, an initiative through which public grievances concerning housing and rehabilitation matters are taken up directly by the authority.
