Multifaceted Urdu editor wins Maha's top journalism accolade for literary excellence

Mumbai, June 26 (UNI) The Maharashtra government has conferred its esteemed Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Puraskar for 2021 and 2022 upon Farhan Hanif Warsi, sub-editor of Mumbai Urdu News, recognising his exceptional contributions to Urdu journalism.
The announcement by the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR) simultaneously revealed Utkarsh Patkar awards for outstanding Marathi, Hindi, and English journalists spanning 2021-2023.
A high-level selection committee, chaired by Principal Secretary and DGIPR chief Brijesh Singh, endorsed Warsi's accolade following rigorous evaluation.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will present the honoree with a trophy, citation and monetary award at an official ceremony.
This marks Warsi's second state-level recognition after receiving the Utkarsh Patrikarita Puraskar in 2019.
Beyond his editorial work, Warsi is celebrated as an accomplished poet and translator. His literary pieces have graced eminent publications including Mumbai's Naya Varaq and Pakistan's Tastir, earning praise from luminaries like late critic Gopichand Narang and poet Azra Abbas for his distinctive contemporary verse.
The awardee has authored five critically acclaimed works: Suraj Achcha Bacha Hai (2011), Hengar Mein Tangi Nazmein (2016), Mumbai Diary (2019), Woh Jo Khabar Mein Thay (2021), and Dreche Kagaz Ke (2022). Two titles – Suraj Achcha Bacha Hai and Mumbai Diary – are available digitally via Notnul.com.
His poetry also features in the 2014 music albums The Voice of Hearts: Anamika Singh and Mere Shani Deva.
Warsi's literary distinctions include Uttar Pradesh's Best Book Award for Mumbai Diary (2019), Maharashtra Urdu Academy's top honour for Woh Jo Khabar Mein Thay (2021) and the Urdu Academy Bihar Prize for Hengar Mein Tangi Nazmein (2016).
His earlier accolades span the Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan National Award (2003), Maharashtra Urdu Sahitya Academy Young Talent Award (2015), Maharashtra Guru Samman (2016), and Shastri Guru Puraskar (2018).
