Mumbai actress duped of Rs 45,000 in online appliance sale fraud

Mumbai, June 24 (UNI) Television and film actress Gargi Maushik Patel was duped of Rs 45,000 in a case involving used home appliances sale. An offence has been registered and the police are investigating the matter, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the Worli area of Mumbai. Following Patel’s complaint, the Worli police have registered an FIR against an unidentified person.
Police said the actress recently posted an advertisement on her Facebook account offering a washing machine and other home appliance for sale. Responding to the advertisement, a man identified as Tarun met her and agreed to purchase all for a price of Rs ₹40,000.
The man requested her bank account details to make the payment, and she shared. He initially transferred ₹35,000 and assured her that the remaining ₹5,000 would be sent soon.
Shortly afterward, Patel received a message, and before she could read it, the man called again and claimed that he had mistakenly transferred ₹50,000 instead of ₹5,000. He requested that she return ₹45,000 to his account.
Believing him, Patel transferred the amount from her and her husband’s bank accounts.
However, after this, the man began giving excuses over returning her money. Eventually, he stopped answering her calls altogether. Realizing she had been duped, Patel filed a complaint at the Worli police station. The matter is currently under investigation.
