Mumbai daylight robbery: Five arrested, stolen gold recovered

Mumbai June 13 (UNI) The Mumbai police on Friday arrested five people in connection with a daylight robbery wherein two jewellery store employees were robbed of nearly three kg of gold worth Rs 2.55 crore.
Police have recovered all the stolen gold.
An officer of Mumbai crime branch said the case was cracked within 12 hours of the crime accused being arrested, while all the stolen items were also recovered.
The accused have been identified as Kurla residents Vinayak Dalvi and Mangesh Shinde, Shanavaz Khan, who hails from Sewree, Nagpada resident Abdul Shaikh, and Santosh Jain.
According to police on Thursday unidentified assailants snatched a bag containing gold worth approximately Rs 2.55 crore from two jewellery workers commuting to their office in Lower Parel. The incident occurred around 8:45 AM near the Diana Bridge junction in the Navjivan Society area of south Mumbai.
According to the FIR registered at Nagpada Police Station, complainant Rajan Shantaram Pawaskar (49), a resident of Vichumbe Village, Panvel (East), along with his nephew Tejas, was riding a motorcycle and carrying a grey-colored bag. The bag contained around 1,500 grams of gold biscuits and another 1,500 grams of broken and repair-bound gold ornaments — totaling approximately 3,000 grams.
As they reached the mid-point of Diana Bridge, four unidentified persons allegedly pushed them and forcibly snatched the valuable bag before fleeing the scene. The stolen gold is valued at around ₹2.55 crore.
Police arrested the accused based on the CCTV footage, call data record and also after the arrest of the first accused who had conspired in the robbery and had previously worked with the jeweller and was aware about the firm operation . UNI AAA SSP
