Nagaland bid to improve govt schools

Dimapur, Oct 10 (UNI) Adviser to Nagaland school education department Kekhrielhoulie Yhome said the state government is exploring a long-term partnership with domestic and German philanthropic organisations to improve learning outcomes in government schools and ensure more effective use of education funds,
Yhome said the proposed initiative follows discussions held since October 5 between the Nagaland government and a delegation led by Nikunj Jhaveri, president of the Rotary Club of the Queen's Necklace, Mumbai, and Martin Kasper, president of Germany-based Childaid Network Foundation, according to reports on Saturday.
He said the proposed interventions would cover teacher training, digital infrastructure, early childhood education, vocational skills and project-based learning, while strengthening existing government systems.
Martin Kasper, president of Germany-based Childaid Network Foundation, said the partnership could involve a minimum five-year engagement, with a roadmap to be developed to improve teaching quality and student performance.
Yhome, at a consultative meeting of school heads and teachers under EBRC Block-Viswema Village at John Government Higher Secondary School, Viswema, on Friday, highlighted key challenges affecting government schools, particularly in terms of infrastructure, learning outcomes, teacher capacity and public perception.
He emphasised the need for effective monitoring and accountability, improved facilities, strengthened teacher training, and greater community involvement.
Yhome noted that improving government schools will not only elevate the quality of academic standards and public perception but also significantly reduce the financial burden on parents by providing accessible and reliable education.
