Nana Patekar’s death: Rajinikanth calls him ‘dear friend’, Kamal Haasan hails his legacy

Mumbai, Oct 8 (UNI) As film fraternity mourned the death of legendary actor Nana Patekar, who passed away at 75 on Thursday, actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan paid their tributes to the versatile actor whose extraordinary acting talent left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.
"I have lost a brother and a true artist, not just a colleague," Ashok Saraf said as he got emotional after receiving the news of Patekar's sudden demise.
Saraf also noted that behind the actor's stern persona, he was an intensely compassionate and loving human being who was always eager to help others.
Tributes poured in from across the country and the film fraternity, with Rajinikanth taking to X to mourn the loss of his dear friend. “I can’t believe my dear friend Nanaji is no longer with us. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan described him as "a force of nature" while highlighting his humanitarian work.
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma expressed disbelief over Patekar’s sudden death. He wrote, “YES, everybody knows nobody is immortal ... But I still can’t believe this can so suddenly happen to a man, as strong as him ... I hate his heart for failing him and I feel like killing GOD for killing the GOD of acting, NANA PATEKAR.”
Veteran actor Nana Patekar, who began his career on the theatre stage, made his film debut with Gaman in 1978 and went on to establish himself as one of the most versatile performers in Indian cinema.
Patekar received the National Film Award for his performance in Parinda (1989) and won the National Film Award for Best Actor for Krantiveer (1994). UNI NEP ATP AAB
