NC MLA booked after PSO alleges assault

Srinagar, Oct 2 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against ruling National Conference MLA Altaf Ahmed Wani alias Kaloo following a complaint of assault by the legislator's personal security officer, officials said on Friday.
Wani, who represents the Pahalgam assembly constituency in south Kashmir however, denied the allegations, claiming the case stemmed from his complaint to senior security officials over the PSO's alleged absence from duty for several days.
According to the complaint, an alleged assault was reported at the residential quarter of Pahalgam MLA at Government Housing Colony, Khanabal Anantnag during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
The complainant, presently posted with Security Line Srinagar and deployed on PSO duty with the MLA, alleged that he was assaulted at the said premises.
Following the incident, the PSO approached Police and submitted a written complaint seeking registration of a case.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case in connection with the incident and initiated further investigation.
MLA Wani, however, denied the allegations.
Speaking about the incident, MLA said he had informed the SSP Security on Thursday that the PSO, was absent from duty. He said he was asked to provide the constable's belt number, which he subsequently shared with the authorities.
Wani said that when he returned to Khanabal Housing Colony in Anatnag the evening, he found the constable in civilian clothes. According to the MLA, the constable questioned him over the report regarding his absence.
MLA alleged that during the exchange, the PSO grabbed him by the neck, prompting other security personnel to intervene. He said he subsequently informed senior security officials and called the police.
The MLA said senior police officers, including DSP Security, later reached the spot and recorded statements from those present.
He also claimed that the PSO's AK-47 rifle and two magazines were handed over to the police authorities after the incident.
The MLA called for a thorough investigation, saying statements of his cook, private staff and other PSOs should also be verified.
"I have also given my statement. Let the police verify what really happened and take action according to law," he said.
