NCP must review organisational strength after Electoral Setbacks: Saleem Sarang

Mumbai, Oct 29 (UNI) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Maharashtra vice-president Saleem Sarang has called for serious introspection within the party following electoral setbacks, emphasising the need to strengthen its organisation, reconnect with grassroots workers and adhere to its ideological commitments.
Sarang said Ajit Pawar had played a crucial role in the party’s electoral battles through his organisational skills, decisive leadership and public connect. The party must now move beyond relying on his name and focus on strengthening the organisation he helped build, he said.
The time has come to give back to the party more than what we received from Ajitdada, Sarang said.
He observed that electoral outcomes reflected not only the popularity of individual candidates but also a party’s organisational strength, leadership credibility and relationship with grassroots workers. Any sign of vulnerability in an established electoral stronghold, particularly one associated with consecutive victories, should serve as a wake-up call for the party leadership, he added.
Sarang also stressed the need to translate the ideological legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Dr B. R. Ambedkar into organisational decisions and political strategy. Social justice, inclusivity and adequate representation for all sections of society should be reflected in the party’s functioning rather than remain limited to political rhetoric, he said.
He said the party needed to assess whether a gap had emerged between its stated ideology and political strategy. Retaining the confidence of workers who joined the organisation under Ajit Pawar’s leadership and ensuring meaningful representation for different sections of society were among the key challenges before it, he added.
Criticising aspects of the party’s internal functioning, Sarang said, “Positions may be secured through sycophancy, but a genuine public base cannot be built that way.”
He called for greater transparency in organisational functioning, respect for loyal workers, and adequate opportunities for experienced leaders. Relying solely on publicity, organisational positions or the legacy of individual leaders would not be enough to rebuild the party, he said.
Sarang emphasised that introspection must lead to concrete corrective measures, warning that repeated discussions after electoral setbacks would have little significance without meaningful organisational changes. UNI SP AAB
