Neeru Dhanda named India's flag-bearer for Asian Games 2026 closing ceremony

Nagoya (Japan), Oct 2 (UNI) Trap shooter Neeru Dhanda has been selected as India’s flag-bearer for the Asian Games 2026 closing ceremony, which is scheduled to be held at the Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Sunday,

Neeru’s selection for the honour follows a remarkable Asian Games campaign in which she secured two gold medals and a silver, emerging as one of India’s standout performers at the continental meet, currently underway in Japan’s Aichi and Nagoya prefectures.
The Indian shooter scripted history by becoming the first woman from the country to win an individual Asian Games gold medal in trap shooting.
Neeru followed the landmark victory with a silver medal in the women’s team trap event alongside Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer. She also partnered with Kynan Chenai to win gold in the mixed team trap shooting event, according to olympics.com
Interestingly, the 27-year-old Neeru had returned to India after her shooting campaign at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 had concluded but will be flying back to Japan to take part in the Closing Ceremony.
Indian shooters finished Aichi-Nagoya 2026 with a total of 15 shooting medals - three gold, eight silver and four bronze - to mark a successful campaign.
As customary, Neeru will lead the Indian contingent with the tricolour at the ceremonial Parade of the Nations during the Asian Games 2026 Closing Ceremony.
Another shooter - two-time Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker - joined kabaddi star Pawan Sehrawat were India’s flag bearers for the Asian Games 2026 opening ceremony.
Hockey legend PR Sreejesh had the honour of being India’s flag bearer at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China, after an influential campaign in the Indian men’s title-winning campaign.
