Hiring delays quietly erode business growth, revenue: BinQle co-founder

Bengaluru, Oct 29 (UNI) Hiring delays are quietly undermining business growth by slowing revenue generation, postponing product launches and expansion plans, and placing additional pressure on existing employees, according to Sushant Acharya, Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer of BinQle.
Citing the SHRM 2026 Recruiting Executives Benchmarking report, Acharya said the median time-to-fill for non-executive positions stood at 39 days, extending the period between raising a job requisition and securing an accepted offer. Notice periods and onboarding further delay the time taken for a new employee to become productive.
He said the business impact of an unfilled position often extends beyond recruitment metrics, affecting revenue targets, project timelines and the organisation's ability to execute growth strategies.
In sales, vacancies can reduce customer outreach, qualified leads and deal closures. In product development, delayed recruitment can push back launches, widen the gap between projected and actual revenue, and allow competitors to gain an advantage. Expansion into new markets can also suffer when key leadership and operational positions remain vacant.
Acharya said delays in hiring team leaders could hold up the formation of entire teams, postponing their operational readiness and ability to secure clients. Aligning recruitment schedules with business objectives was therefore essential to maintaining growth momentum.
The consequences also extend to existing employees, who are often required to absorb additional responsibilities without a corresponding reduction in their regular workload. While this may help maintain short-term continuity, prolonged vacancies can divert attention from strategic priorities, affect work quality and increase employee fatigue.
Client relationships are similarly vulnerable, as understaffed teams may struggle to respond promptly, conduct regular reviews and plan proactively for accounts. Consistent service delivery and continuity in client engagement are important to building trust, securing renewals and generating referrals, he said.
Highlighting the hidden costs of prolonged recruitment, Acharya said repeated sourcing and interviews consume the time of recruiters and hiring managers, while agency fees and temporary staffing expenses add to the financial burden.
He also cited a Robert Half survey which found that 39 per cent of respondents lose interest and pursue other opportunities when faced with lengthy hiring processes, while 32 per cent said such delays raised questions about an organisation's decision-making competence.
Candidates often view recruitment as an indicator of how efficiently a company operates, making a transparent and responsive hiring process important for attracting talent, he said.
To reduce delays, Acharya recommended finalising evaluation criteria before interviews, scheduling interview panels in advance, limiting approval layers and assigning clear responsibility for final hiring decisions. These measures could reduce repeated deliberations and help companies make offers while candidates remain interested.
" Hiring speed is one of the few growth levers that sit entirely within a leader's control," he said, emphasising the role of talent intelligence and workforce solutions in identifying suitable candidates, anticipating staffing requirements and enabling timely recruitment decisions.
He said companies needed to view hiring not merely as a human resources function but as a business priority directly linked to execution, productivity and growth.
