Poultry industry leaders agree on Rs 110 per kg minimum benchmark for live chicken

Hyderabad, Nov 2 (UNI) Poultry breeders and industry leaders from across the country on Monday agreed to work towards coordinated pricing, with a minimum benchmark of Rs 110 per kg for live chicken, amid fluctuations in broiler prices and rising feed costs.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting organised by the All India Poultry Breeders Association (AIPBA), Pan India Breeders Association (PIBCC) and various State poultry associations at Hyderabad.
The meeting discussed recent fluctuations in chicken prices, rising maize prices and the availability of feed ingredients, particularly in view of the El Nino conditions and their possible impact on the poultry sector.
The participants observed that the recent decline in chicken prices was largely seasonal, coinciding with reduced consumption during the festival period, and urged poultry stakeholders not to panic over temporary market fluctuations.
The meeting was attended by AIPBA Chairman Bahadur Ali, PIBCC Convenor Vasanth Kumar Shetty, Telangana Poultry Breeders Association (TPBA) President Dr A Tirupathi Reddy, Venkateshwara Hatcheries General Manager K G Anand, Shalimar Group of Companies Managing Director Sameer Agarwal, Suguna Foods Managing Director Vignesh Soundararajan and Premium Chick Feeds Pvt Ltd Co-founder Dr Girish Kolwankar, among others.
The industry leaders called for policy interventions to address rising feed costs, particularly through facilitating duty-free imports of non-genetically modified (non-GMO) maize.
They also stressed the need to utilise the adequate availability of soybean in the domestic market to support the poultry feed industry.
As a collective initiative, the participating associations decided to meet government representatives and policymakers in New Delhi later next week to discuss the challenges confronting the sector and seek suitable policy measures.
The proposed discussions will focus on stabilising the market, containing input costs and creating a favourable policy environment for the sustainable growth of India's poultry industry.
