Three workers killed in electrocution at Mizoram highway construction site

Aizawl, Sep 20 (UNI) Three workers were killed, and three others suffered minor injuries after they were electrocuted while working on a four-lane highway project at Sethawn village in Kolasib district of Mizoram on Saturday.
According to the Kolasib district police, the accident occurred around 1 pm near the RTP farm along the Assam-Mizoram highway when the workers were shifting an electric pole at the construction site.
The six workers were engaged by a sub-contractor, C Vanlalhriat of Chawlhmun in Aizawl, for work being carried out under the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL).
The three deceased were identified as Thianhum, 16, of Haikhawl, Myanmar; Lalrinawma, 18, of Pathiantlang, Mizoram; and Lalruatfela, 20, of Thingpuikul, Manipur. All three were residing at Brigade, Bawngkawn, Aizawl. Police said they died at the spot.
The injured workers sustained minor injuries and were examined after the incident.
Police conducted inquests into the deaths and sent the bodies to Kolasib District Hospital for post-mortem examinations. The bodies are to be handed over to their families after the procedures.
According to police, the surviving workers said they had switched off the electricity supply at three different points before beginning the work. They reportedly could not explain how power was restored to the area where they were working.
Police are looking into the circumstances that led to the sudden flow of electricity at the site. UNI ZC SAS
