Khandu discusses Siang water security with CBOs amid SUMP opposition

Itanagar, Sep 30 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday held an interaction with representatives of community-based organisations (CBOs), government officials and other stakeholders from across the Siang Valley amid continuing opposition from sections of the indigenous Adi community to the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) and the ongoing Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) activities.
The interaction at Yingkiong focused on the concerns and challenges surrounding water management in the Siang Valley, with Khandu highlighting the need to prepare for both extreme water events and seasonal water scarcity.
The Chief Minister said the valley faces the possibility of sudden and exceptionally high upstream flows reaching downstream areas with limited warning, while water availability can become a challenge during the dry winter months.
