ECI deferred SIR in Tripura, rescheduled for Oct 27 due to VC election under ADC

Agartala, Sept 10 (UNI) The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura has been deferred by the Election Commission of India (ECI) due to the upcoming general elections to the Village Committees under Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC).
The Commission's decision to defer the SIR was communicated to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Tripura, yesterday, following a request from the State election machinery seeking postponement of the voter-verification process to avoid overlap with Village Committee elections.
The decision holds significance as the upcoming Village Committee elections are anticipated to entail substantial administrative and election-related responsibilities, particularly in the ADC areas. Under the revised timetable, the preparatory phase of the SIR will commence on October 27 and extend until November 5, encompassing essential tasks such as personnel training and printing-related work for the revision of electoral rolls.
