BJP highlights investment, FDI figures to target previous BJD govt

Bhubaneswar, Sep 19 (UNI) The State unit of BJP on Saturday claimed Odisha's foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow has increased under its government, contrasting the figures recorded during the previous BJD regime.
BJP spokesperson Satyabrata Panda said Odisha received USD 47 million in FDI between April and September 2025, averaging USD 7.83 million a month, compared with an average monthly inflow of USD 1.14 million between April and June 2024, towards the end of the BJD government's tenure.
Citing Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade data, Panda said Odisha received USD 172.79 million in FDI between October 2019 and December 2024, accounting for 0.06 per cent of India's total inflow.
He said Odisha accounted for Rs 2.4 lakh crore, or around nine per cent, of the Rs 26.75 lakh crore in investments expected in India between April 1 and August 5, 2026, according to Bank of Baroda Economic Research data.
Panda also claimed that Odisha accounted for Rs 3.49 lakh crore, or 13.1 per cent, of Rs 26.62 lakh crore in investment proposals announced nationally between April 2025 and December 2026.
He said the BJP government has set a target of attracting USD 20 billion in FDI to Odisha by 2029.
BJP Spokespersons also alleged that only Rs 5,674.56 crore, or 0.91 per cent, of the Rs 6.26 lakh crore investment proposals announced at the 2016 and 2018 Make in Odisha conclaves materialised during the previous government.
BJP industrial cell head Tapan Kumar Chand said the state is now focusing on sectors including semiconductors, electronics, data centres, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and textiles.UNI MK AAB
