West Bengal Cabinet clears 45,185 posts ahead of Durga Puja

Kolkata, Oct 14 (UNI) With Durga Puja round the corner, the West Bengal government on Wednesday cleared 45,185 posts across key departments, with recruitment to fill the vacancies set to begin soon, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said after a Cabinet meeting at the state secretariat Nabanna.
“Today’s Cabinet meeting approved another 45,000-plus appointments, apart from the main resolution. A total of 45,185 appointments will be made,” Adhikari said.
The School Education Department accounts for the bulk of the posts, with 33,199 vacancies. These include 4,473 primary assistant teachers, 6,590 upper-primary assistant teachers, 12,343 assistant teachers, 32 first-grade teachers, 23 postgraduate assistant teachers and 4,394 headmasters and headmistresses.
The Panchayats and Rural Development Department will have 7,119 posts, while 996 posts have been approved in the police, including positions for Deputy Commissioners, inspectors, sub-inspectors and women constables.
Another 1,861 posts have been approved under Technical Education, Training and Skill Development, including officer and clerical positions.
“A total of 45,185 new vacancies were created, or had already been created, and were approved by the Finance Department at today’s Cabinet meeting,” Adhikari said.
“The recruitment process will begin soon in accordance with the rules,” he added.
The decision comes on the eve of Durga Puja Panchami, which falls on Thursday, with the state gearing up for its biggest annual festival and large numbers of people preparing to return home or travel during the festive period.
The announcement of the vacancies ahead of the Puja period puts employment at the centre of Wednesday’s Cabinet decisions, with the School Education Department accounting for nearly three-fourths of the total posts cleared.
Adhikari said the state government would soon start the recruitment process to fill the approved vacancies, with appointments to be made strictly in accordance with the prescribed rules. UNI SEN NST CDS
