Five arrested with Rs 40 lakh cash in Tripura

Agartala, Sept 21 (UNI) Tripura Police recovered Rs 40 lakh from a Bolero vehicle during a checkpoint inspection at Durga Chowmuhani in Kamalpur, under Dhalai district, last evening and arrested five persons accompanying the money in the vehicle.
The police personnel stopped a private Bolero, which was coming from Dharmanagar of North Tripura to Agartala, and recovered the currency. The arrested persons were identified as Muktar Hossain from Teliamura; Jasim Mia from Melaghar; Kabir Mia from Agartala; Liton Mia from Khowai; and Rabindra Das from Teliamura. They are all between 18 years and 33 years old.
During initial interrogation, they stated that the currency was associated with betel nut business dealings. Nevertheless, investigators identified inconsistencies in their explanations regarding the origin and purpose of the funds. The recovered currency was tallied using a currency-counting device in the presence of a magistrate.
