Bihar, Centre to jointly check criminal activities along Indo-Nepal border: CM

Patna, Sep 26 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary today said the Centre and the state government would work together to effectively check infiltration, fake documents, counterfeit currency, narcotics smuggling and other criminal activities along the India-Nepal border.
Choudhary made the remarks while chairing a high-level review meeting on various issues related to the India-Nepal border at ‘Samvad’ in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat here. union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary also attended the meeting.
A detailed presentation was made on border security and management, law and order in border areas and measures to prevent illegal activities.
The Chief Minister said national security was the “highest responsibility” and stressed the need to continuously strengthen security and management arrangements along the sensitive India-Nepal border.
He directed the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Bihar Police and central agencies to work in close coordination to ensure effective control over illegal activities in border areas.
Choudhary called for special surveillance against infiltration, use of fake documents, counterfeit currency, narcotics trafficking and other criminal activities.
He directed officials to ensure the availability of necessary machines at banks in border areas for detecting counterfeit currency. He also called for identification of suspicious financial transactions and fake or suspicious bank accounts and action in accordance with law.
The Chief Minister directed officials to take effective action against narcotics trafficking in line with the Centre’s target of a “Drug-Free India 2029”, with the objective of preventing the movement of narcotic substances through the border region.
He also directed that district magistrates and police officials of border districts to hold regular monthly coordination meetings with central security and investigative agencies.
Choudhary further directed authorities to identify unregistered religious sites in border areas and take necessary action in accordance with prevailing laws and rules.
He also stressed the need to provide better educational facilities in border areas.
The Chief Minister said all agencies concerned must remain vigilant and work through information sharing and coordinated action to strengthen border security. He called for strengthening intelligence mechanisms in sensitive areas and ensuring prompt action, in accordance with law, against any suspicious activity.
Besides senior authorities, the District magistrates and superintendents of police of the border districts joined the meeting through video conferencing.
