Kolkata Police visit Eden Gardens in CAB election document fraud case

Kolkata, Sep 15 (UNI) Kolkata Police have summoned an employee responsible for distributing mail in connection with alleged irregularities in the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) election process.
The employee has been asked to appear at Maidan Police Station at 11 am on Wednesday.
Police sources said representatives of several affiliated clubs have already been questioned in connection with the alleged ticket fraud, while officials of a courier agency have also undergone preliminary questioning.
A police team led by the Officer-in-Charge and Additional Officer-in-Charge of Maidan Police Station visited the CAB headquarters during the day and questioned officials of some affiliated clubs.
Police have launched an investigation into allegations of irregularities in the distribution of nomination papers. Several employees of the CAB's mail distribution department are under scrutiny, and one of them has been summoned for questioning.
A few days ago, Gautam Dey, a member of Calcutta University Institute, a CAB-affiliated club, lodged a complaint at Maidan Police Station against certain CAB officials and DTDC courier agency. Police subsequently registered a case based on the complaint.
The CAB's Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled for September 24, when elections will be held for the posts of Secretary, Joint Secretary and a member of the Apex Council. The complaint alleges manipulation and fraud in courier records relating to the dispatch of election documents.
Dey alleged that nomination papers meant for voters from five clubs, including Calcutta University Institute, YMCA and Friends Sporting, were sent to incorrect addresses. Members of the respective managing committees reportedly collected the nomination papers themselves.
He further alleged that there was no “tracking history” for the courier agency's consignment numbers relating to the documents sent to the five clubs. Instead of five separate booking receipts, only a single receipt had allegedly been generated.
Dey also alleged that the records showed the nomination papers as having been sent to the correct individuals, although they were allegedly not delivered to them.
