Over 82 pc SIR hearings completed in Meghalaya: CEO

Shillong, Sep 15 (UNI) Over 82 percent of hearings under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 of electoral rolls in Meghalaya have been completed, with 542 voters found ineligible for inclusion in the final electoral roll after scrutiny, Chief Electoral Officer Brahma Deo Ram Tiwari said on Tuesday.

Tiwari said the period for filing of claims and objectives, which was scheduled to end on September 15, has been extended up to September 18, 2026.

The CEO directed district election authorities to expedite the remaining notice delivery and hearings and ensure that every elector is provided fair and reasonable opportunity of being heard.

The Draft Electoral Roll contains 21,69,243 electors. Of these, 6,51,735 notices have been generated so far, with 6,46,397 notices delivered to electors and 5,190 still awaiting delivery

The process of disposal of claims & objections and completion of hearings will continue up to October 17, and the final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on October 21, 2026.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has urged all citizens who have been served notices to cooperate with the election department and the respective DCs and complete the process.

After meeting with the CEO and officials from the state election department on the ongoing SIR, 2026 process for Meghalaya, Sangma expressed satisfaction over the “exhaustive exercise undertaken by Team Meghalaya to ensure that no genuine elector is left behind”.

Tiwari said electors who could not attend on the originally scheduled date should also be provided another opportunity for hearing.

“A notice provides the elector an opportunity to clarify the issue identified during scrutiny and furnish the prescribed supporting documents. No name appearing in the draft electoral roll shall be deleted without following the prescribed procedure and providing due opportunity of hearing,” the CEO underscored.

He said electors whose names are not included in the draft electoral roll may submit Form 6 along with the prescribed Declaration Form and supporting documents within the stipulated period

During a separate meeting with political parties, Tiwari requested them to continue assisting electors, especially those who have received notices or whose names are not included in the draft electoral roll, so that they can avail themselves of the opportunities available under the revision process.
