Heavy rain disrupts rail services in Odisha: 9 trains cancelled, 14 diverted

Bhubaneswar, Oct 29 (UNI) Flooding in the Ichchapuram–Jhadupudi section of East Coast Railway’s Visakhapatnam Division has disrupted train services, prompting the cancellation of nine trains and diversion of 14 others on Thursday.
The disruption followed heavy rainfall of around 550 mm in parts of Ganjam district under the influence of cyclonic storm Arnab, causing the Bahuda river to swell and water levels at Baghalati reservoir and railway bridges Nos. 631/01 and 630/01 to rise above the danger mark.
East Coast Railway (ECoR) has suspended train operations on the affected section as a precautionary measure. Services will be restored after water levels recede and the section is declared safe for train movement, railway officials said.
Among the cancelled trains are the Bhubaneswar–Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat Express, Bhubaneswar–Visakhapatnam Intercity Express, Brahmapur–Visakhapatnam Passenger and Express trains, Visakhapatnam–Bhubaneswar Passenger, and the Bhubaneswar–Jagdalpur Hirakhand Express. The Jagdalpur–Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express scheduled for October 30 has also been cancelled. The Bhubaneswar–Secunderabad Visakha Express and Howrah–Secunderabad Falaknuma Express have been cancelled in view of the cyclone situation.
Fourteen trains have been diverted through alternative routes. These include the Brahmapur–Udhna Amrit Bharat Express, Bhubaneswar–Bengaluru Prasanthi Express, Howrah–SMVT Bengaluru Express, Bhagalpur–Yesvantpur Anga Express, Shalimar–Nagercoil Gurudev Express and several other long-distance services. The diversions involve routes through Angul, Sambalpur, Rayagada, Vizianagaram and Titlagarh, depending on the train.
ECoR is coordinating with the State Government and district administrations to monitor water levels and assess the situation. Railway personnel, Railway Protection Force staff and travelling ticket examiners have been deployed to assist stranded passengers and arrange food and drinking water.
The railway has also intensified passenger communication through social media, Rail Madad and the National Train Enquiry System (NTES).
Passengers have been advised to check the latest train status through NTES or official railway channels before starting their journeys.UNI MK AAB
