CM Khemchand calls for unity beyond community lines to restore peace in Manipur on Unity day

Imphal, Oct 31 (UNI) Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today called for unity beyond community lines, saying Manipur’s peace, integrity and economic progress cannot be achieved through community-centric approaches or by prioritising the interests of any single group.
Addressing the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas observance at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal, the Chief Minister said Manipur was home to 36 different communities and stressed that governance must take into account the interests of all sections of society.
He appealed to people to rise above narrow community considerations and work collectively to restore a peaceful atmosphere and advance the state’s development.
Highlighting the significance of National Unity Day, observed on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Singh said the occasion commemorated Patel’s contribution to strengthening national unity and building a strong India.
Recalling Patel’s role in the freedom movement, the Chief Minister referred to his participation in major campaigns against British rule, including the Civil Disobedience Movement and the Quit India Movement. After Independence, Patel played a key role in integrating the princely states into the Indian Union, thereby strengthening the country’s unity and territorial integrity, he said.
The Chief Minister also recalled the inauguration of the Statue of Unity in Gujarat on October 31, 2018, as a tribute to Patel, popularly known as the Iron Man of India.
As part of the observance, nine contingents took part in a march past commanded by Pramesh Arambam, Commanding Officer of the 4th Indian Reserve Battalion. The Government Dance Academy presented a choreographic performance titled “Akhoigi Apunba Saktam” (Our Collective Identity).
The programme was attended by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, MLAs, attended the event.
