Gandhi, Shastri ideals remain perennial source of inspiration for every Indian: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar, Oct 2 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday said the ideals of truth and non-violence espoused by Mahatma Gandhi and the commitment to duty and service exemplified by former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri would remain a perennial source of inspiration for every Indian.
Paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries at a programme held on the premises of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Majhi said the state government would continue its efforts to build a prosperous Odisha and contribute to the development of a developed India by following the ideals of the two national leaders.
The Chief Minister said Gandhi not only led India to freedom but also provided a new direction to the world through the principles of morality, Satyagraha and non-cooperation.
Gandhi's vision centred on serving the person at the last rung of society, maintaining cleanliness and promoting the use of indigenous products, he said.
"Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi's dream is being realised," Majhi said.
He said cleanliness had now become a mass movement across the country, while the Swadeshi mantra was providing strong support to the efforts to build an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.

Shastri's selfless service to the nation and his inspiring call of "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" had infused new enthusiasm and strength among the people, he said.
Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy and other dignitaries also paid floral tributes to Gandhi and Shastri and recalled their contributions to the nation.
On the occasion, the Information and Public Relations Department organised an all-faith prayer meeting and a rendition of Gandhi's favourite devotional hymn, 'Ramdhun'.
