Body of missing Army Jawan recovered after 8 days searching in North Sikkim

Gangtok, June 9 (UNI) The body of an Army jawan, Sepoy Sainudheen PK, who was missing along with five others after landslides swept away the army camp at Chaten in north Sikkim, was recovered after eight days of continuous search operation, police said on Monday.
The jawan went missing on June 1 after a massive landslide struck the Army camp in Chaten following cloudbursts triggered by torrents.
The recovery was officially confirmed on June 8 by Mangan district Superintendent of Police Sonam Detchu Bhutia, who has been overseeing the rescue and coordination efforts in the region.
The Indian Army, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local administration, has been tirelessly carrying out search operations in the challenging terrain and unpredictable weather conditions of north Sikkim.
The Indian armed forces bid adieu to the braveheart, whose mortal remains were being taken to his home Lakhwadwip, some 2,500 kms from Chaten.
The mortal remains of Sepoy Sainudheen PK, who made the supreme sacrifice in the devastating landslide at Chaten, were recovered after eight days of relentless search efforts by the Indian Army.
Born on 20 December 1991 in Androth, Lakshadweep, Sepoy Sainudheen joined the Indian Army on March 24, 2012. Over the past 13 years, he served with honour and distinction across some of the harshest operational terrains, including the forbidding heights of the Siachen Glacier. He was known among peers and seniors alike for his professionalism, discipline and unflinching dedication to duty.
His final journey — traversing nearly 2,500 kilometres from Chaten to his native island of Androth in Lakshadweep — was a solemn and dignified tribute to a life dedicated to the nation. This long and logistically complex repatriation was made possible through a coordinated tri-services operation involving the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy, supported ably by the local administration.
Army Aviation helicopters and Indian Air Force aircraft, including the C-295, were employed for this effort, ensuring timely and seamless transportation across multiple legs of the journey.
A ceremonial wreath-laying tribute was conducted with full military honours at Bengdubi Military Station in Siliguri, marking the Indian Army’s profound respect. At Androth, the Indian Navy rendered a Guard of Honour, reaffirming the sanctity of soldierly sacrifice.
