Agartala, June 10 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in Tripura Assembly Jitendra Chaudhury launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led government in the state, alleging a total breakdown of law and order, and asked Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha to control spiralling violence to maintain peace and tranquility.
Chaudhury was reacting to an incident on Sunday night inside a city mosque where BJP cadres led by a party’s state committee members reportedly attacked the residence of Congress leader Shahjahan Islam with firearms after he made derogatory remarks against the CM and state police.
Calling it a deliberate attempt to intimidate opposition voices, Chaudhury said, “Miscreants stormed the house of Shahjahan Islam, vandalized property, and assaulted his family members. This wasn’t just an attack on a person, it was a personal attack aimed at the Chief Minister’s political opponents in the party who desperately trying to oust Dr Saha.”
Chaudhury alleged that an attempt was also made to attack state party chief Ashis Kumar Saha and MLA Sudip Roybarman when they arrived at Shajahan’s house. Some policemen were also injured when they tried to protect the leaders.
He claimed that such incidents reflect the worsening law and order situation in the state. “There is no rule of law in Tripura. Personal attacks have become the new norm, and yet, the government turns a blind eye. If making personal attacks is a crime, why are BJP leaders repeatedly attacking opposition figures without facing consequences?” he asked.
