278 low income group families got flats in Agartala under affordable housing scheme

Agartala, Oct 30 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha handed over the keys to 278 beneficiaries of Blocks A and F of the Agartala Light House complex near the India-Bangladesh border, constructed under the state’s affordable housing scheme.
The project is part of the Central Government’s Global Housing Technology Challenge-India (GHTC-India), led by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The programme promotes modern, sustainable, affordable and disaster-resistant building methods.
CM said safe, permanent homes for economically weaker and low-income families are a major state government commitment. A concrete home, he said, offers families security, dignity and confidence, as well as a base for a better future. The project also helps make quality, modern housing available to people who may not be able to afford it in major cities.
Plans call for about 1,000 flats across seven multi-storey blocks. Each flat has roughly 30 square metres, or 320 square feet, of carpet area. The estimated cost is Rs 162.50 crore. The project faced administrative and financial problems during construction.
Piling work also raised technical issues that had not been adequately covered in the original Detailed Project Report. Saha said cooperation from Manohar Lal and other authorities helped resolve the problems and complete the two blocks.
Agartala is one of six sites chosen for Light House Projects under GHTC-India along with Ranchi, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot and Chennai. The projects test advanced building methods and encourage their wider use in affordable housing.
Agartala’s buildings use Light Gauge Steel Framed (LGSF) technology with a Pre-Engineered Steel Structural System. Factory-made steel parts and modern materials help speed construction and improve strength, durability, and resource efficiency.
The project also includes facilities for a planned residential neighbourhood: a community centre, Anganwadi, healthcare centre, water supply and other civic services. Solar lighting and rainwater harvesting are part of its sustainable infrastructure.
