New plant species, Koenigia arunachalensis, discovered in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar, May 27 (UNI) A team of researchers from CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST), Jorhat, Assam, has discovered a new herbaceous plant species named Koenigia arunachalensis from the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The species, belonging to the Polygonaceae family, has been named after the state in recognition of its place of origin.
The discovery was led by Dr Pankaj Bharali, Scientist at CSIR-NEIST, along with Bipankar Hajong, a PhD scholar at CSIR-NEIST and currently Assistant Professor at Bholanath Nath College (Autonomous), Dhubri (Assam), and Dr Magnus Lidén of Uppsala University, Sweden.
