Odisha dental professor Susant Mohanty elected ISPPD chief

Bhubaneswar, Sep 24 (UNI) Prof. (Dr.) Susant Mohanty of SOA Deemed to be University has been elected president of the Indian Society of Pediatrics and Preventive Dentistry (ISPPD), with integrated maternal and child oral healthcare emerging as a key priority under his tenure.
Mohanty, Head of Pediatrics and Preventive Dentistry at the Institute of Dental Sciences (IDS), SOA’s faculty of dental sciences, was elected at the society’s 47th National Conference in New Delhi. He succeeds Prof. Sudhindra Baliga.
In his presidential address, Mohanty called for closer coordination between dentists, obstetricians, paediatricians and maternal and community health workers to strengthen oral healthcare for mothers and children.
He said maternal oral health should be integrated with general healthcare, pointing out that oral health during pregnancy could influence a child’s future oral health.
Mohanty also stressed the need to align dental research with national and regional priorities, particularly areas where evidence gaps could affect policy and clinical practice.
He highlighted the need for comprehensive treatment of children with multiple oral health problems under general anaesthesia. Such an approach, he said, could ensure children receive complete treatment instead of fragmented interventions.
He also said these cases could be used to strengthen the clinical training of dental interns and postgraduate students in diagnosis, treatment planning and multidisciplinary care.UNI MK AAB
