Tripura sets to hold VC poll of ADC tomorrow under tight security

Agartala, Sept 27 (UNI) The stage is all set in Tripura to conduct elections for Village Committees (VC) under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) across 44 blocks at 1,095 polling stations tomorrow, with around 6.65 lakh voters expected to participate under heightened security measures.
The VC elections represent the first occurrence in a decade, following a directive from the Supreme Court. The previous VC election was conducted in 2016, with no subsequent elections held until now. A total of 8,176 candidates representing various recognized political parties and independent candidates are contesting for 4,597 VC positions.
As many as, 1,644 contestants, comprising 81 from BJP, one from CPI-M, and remainder from the ruling ADC party TIPRA Motha, have been elected unopposed, said Secretary, State Election Commission (SEC), Anurag Sen.
He noted that while initial assessments identified approximately 1,550 polling stations, the final count for voting locations stands at 1,095 stations, and SEC has made all necessary arrangements to hold election peacefully.
To ensure orderly and peaceful polling, authorities have positioned 74 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). Sen reported that area domination exercises, patrols, and preventative operations have been executed over the preceding two days.
He further stated that approximately 7,300 polling personnel have been assigned to election duties. Material verification will take place at the block level on Saturday, with polling teams commencing their movement to designated stations on Sunday morning under appropriate security protocols.
Sector officers have received instructions to guarantee the secure movement and timely arrival of polling teams at their respective locations.
State police and other supplementary security personnel have been accompanying teams transporting ballot boxes and electoral materials, which commenced movement from early this morning, while also intensifying security patrols along sensitive village routes.
