Odisha to woo chemical, petrochemical investors at India Chem 2026

Bhubaneswar, Oct 21 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will lead the State’s investment outreach at India Chem 2026 in Mumbai on October 22, showcasing its industrial infrastructure, resource base and policy framework to attract fresh investments in the chemical and petrochemical sectors.
During his two-day visit to Mumbai, Majhi will attend the inaugural session of the event and a CEO Roundtable chaired by union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers J. P. Nadda.
He is also scheduled to hold one-to-one meetings with representatives of more than 20 major companies to explore investment opportunities in downstream manufacturing, industrial expansion and new ventures in Odisha.
A key highlight of the State’s participation will be a presentation on coal gasification, an emerging area of industrial opportunity. The State Government may also announce a dedicated, large-scale chemical industrial park to promote value addition and attract investments in chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics and packaging.
Odisha’s participation is aimed at strengthening its engagement with domestic and international industry leaders and positioning the State as an emerging destination for chemical and petrochemical manufacturing.
The State will participate alongside Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu at the event, which provides a platform for states to showcase investment opportunities and engage with industry stakeholders.
Odisha is seeking to build on its established strengths in mining and metallurgy to expand into downstream chemical and petrochemical industries. The State Government is focusing on diversifying the industrial base, strengthening manufacturing value chains and promoting higher-value production through investments in allied sectors.
According to the State Government, 56 companies have evinced interest in the chemical and petrochemical sectors, with proposed investments of Rs 1,93,087.94 crore and an employment potential of 1,12,324 people over the last two years.
Of these, 27 projects have been grounded or inaugurated, involving investments of Rs 60,825.34 crore and an employment potential of 35,351 people, reflecting the State’s efforts to translate investment proposals into industrial activity and employment generation.
Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries, Home and Information and Public Relations departments, said Odisha had a strong industrial foundation and was seeking to expand its presence in high-potential sectors such as chemicals and petrochemicals.
Participation in India Chem 2026 would enable the State to engage directly with leading companies, showcase investment opportunities and explore partnerships for future growth, he said.
Sharma said the proposed chemical industrial park and the focus on coal gasification would strengthen the industrial ecosystem and open up new avenues for investment, value addition and employment generation.
Referring to recent industrial developments in Jajpur, Sharma said nine projects in the chemical and petrochemical sector—five inaugurated and four grounded—represented an investment of Rs 4,136 crore and were expected to generate employment for 1,508 people.
The State Government expects the Mumbai outreach to generate further investor interest and facilitate new projects, with a focus on strengthening manufacturing capabilities, expanding downstream industries and accelerating industrial development across Odisha.
