Governor congratulates Arunachal mountaineers on major summits

Itanagar, Sept 15 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik has congratulated mountaineers January Tali, Kampo Matey and Nyarian Matey for their recent achievements in mountaineering.
The Governor congratulated January Tali for becoming the first Indian woman to successfully summit both Mount Kun (7,077 metres) and Mount Nun (7,135 metres) during the same climbing season, between July 27 and September 8, 2026.
He also congratulated Kampo Matey and Nyarian Matey, both from Tirap district, for successfully summiting the 6,127-metre Mount Shinkun West in Himachal Pradesh as part of the Mount Shinkun West Expedition.
Describing their achievements as a matter of immense pride for Arunachal Pradesh and the nation, the Governor said the three mountaineers had demonstrated exceptional courage, endurance, technical skill and determination.
He said their accomplishments marked a significant milestone in Indian mountaineering and reflected the indomitable spirit of Arunachal Pradesh’s youth.
Their achievements, he added, further strengthened the presence of Arunachali mountaineers on the national and international adventure sports arena.
Recalling his service in the region, the Governor said Mount Kun and Mount Nun, located in the rugged Zanskar region of Ladakh, are known for steep snow and ice slopes, treacherous glaciers, extreme weather conditions and thin mountain air, making expeditions to the peaks highly demanding.
He wished the mountaineers trio continued success in their future expeditions and expressed hope that they would scale greater heights and bring further laurels to Arunachal Pradesh and the nation.
