Bengal set for Rs 6,000-cr Haldia Petrochemicals project ahead of Durga Puja

Kolkata, Sep 17 (UNI) West Bengal is set for a major industrial push ahead of the festive season, with land parcels to be handed over at Budge Budge Shilpa Taluk and a Rs 6,000-crore project at Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL) scheduled for inauguration.
Announcing the developments at Baja Kadamtala Ghat after lighting a ceremonial lamp to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said industrialists would be handed over land parcels at Budge Budge Shilpa Taluk on September 23.
The bigger announcement concerns Haldia, where a new phenol and acetone plant set up under HPL subsidiary Adplus Polymers & Chemicals will be formally inaugurated on October 14, just before Shashthi during Devi Paksha.
Adhikari said the facility would be the country’s largest phenol manufacturing unit and would also house India’s first on-purpose propylene plant based on Olefin Conversion Technology.
Once commissioned, the plant is expected to augment India’s domestic chemical production capacity, generate direct and indirect employment and strengthen feedstock security for downstream industries.
“This is the first time the Prime Minister’s birthday has been celebrated in such a manner in the state. We are felicitating him as proud Indians on completion of 25 years of his service to the nation,” the Chief Minister said.
He added that the Howrah Bridge and other landmarks across the districts had been illuminated and a month-long calendar of events had been drawn up.
“On October 7, on completion of 25 years of Narendra Modi as administrator, programmes will be organised in every district. We will try to conclude the celebrations by October 10,” Adhikari said, adding that Kalash Yatras, rangoli competitions and outreach programmes involving people whose economic condition had improved during Modi’s tenure were being planned.
Drawing, debate and quiz competitions on the theme of ‘India in 2047’ would also be organised among students as part of the celebrations, the Chief Minister said.
