Meghalaya records highest reduction in maternal mortality across India: CM

Tura, Sep 21 (UNI) Meghalaya has recorded the highest reduction in maternal mortality in the country, with a 55 per cent decline, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Monday.
Inaugurating the extension of the Tura District Maternity & Child Hospital, adding a 50-bed wing and taking the hospital’s capacity to 150 beds, Sangma said maternal deaths in Meghalaya have more than halved over the past five years, dropping from 244 to 107.
However, the Chief Minister stressed that the ultimate goal must be zero maternal and child deaths, urging healthcare professionals to remain motivated despite ongoing challenges
