Jharkhand: PMLA court directs Hemant Soren to appear on Sep 21

Ranchi, Sep 19 (UNI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has been directed to appear before the PMLA special court here on September 21 in connection with the Badgai land case, with the court allowing him to appear virtually.
The court fixed September 21 as the next date after Soren's counsel expressed inability to appear on Saturday, citing the Chief Minister's official engagements. The court has directed him to appear by 4 pm, when arguments on framing of charges are scheduled, according to advocate Avinash Pandey.
The development follows the Jharkhand High Court's dismissal on Friday of Soren's interlocutory application seeking exemption from personal appearance before the PMLA court in the case involving 8.86 acres of land in Badgai.
The PMLA special court had rejected Soren's discharge petition on June 8, 2026, holding that a prima facie case was made out against him at that stage based on the facts presented by the Enforcement Directorate, according to the report.
Soren has challenged the special court's order before the High Court through a criminal revision petition, seeking quashing of the order and a stay on the criminal proceedings.
The PMLA court has already framed charges against several co-accused in the case, including Antu Tirkey, architect Vinod Kumar Singh, former revenue sub-inspector Bhanu Pratap Prasad, Tapas Ghosh, Shekhar Kushwaha, Mohammad Saddam Hussain and others.
