Jharkhand HC fines Soren side Rs 10,000 for reply delay

Ranchi, Oct 1 (UNI) The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday imposed a cost of Rs 10,000 on the respondent side for seeking additional time to file a response in a petition challenging an FIR registered against Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Justice Anil Kumar Choudhary allowed the request for additional time but directed the respondent side to file its response within the stipulated period. The court fixed November 2 for the next hearing.
The FIR was registered at the SC/ST police station in Ranchi on January 31, 2024, against ED officials including Kapil Raj, Deovrat Jha, Anupam Kumar and Aman Patel. It was lodged during the ED's investigation into a land-related money laundering case.
The ED officials subsequently approached the High Court seeking quashing of the FIR and proceedings initiated against them under the SC/ST Act. The petition alleges that the proceedings against the officials should be set aside.
The High Court had earlier directed the respondent side to file its response, while coercive action against the ED officials remains stayed, according to the report.
The Rs 10,000 cost has been directed to be deposited with the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority.
Further proceedings in the matter are scheduled for November 2.
