Jharkhand: HC allows candidates to report SIT harassment to retired judge

Ranchi, Sep 18 (UNI) The Jharkhand High Court on Friday continued its interim stay on the state government's decision to cancel several recruitment examinations and allowed candidates alleging harassment during the SIT probe to approach a retired judge.
Justice Deepak Roshan directed that candidates who feel they are being harassed during the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation may place their grievances before retired High Court judge Gautam Kumar Choudhary.
The court also directed that a retired IPS officer be appointed as nodal officer to assist the retired judge in dealing with such complaints.
The order came during hearing of petitions challenging the government's decision concerning the JPSC 11th-13th Civil Services examination, JSSC-CGL, CDPO and Food Safety Officer (FSO) recruitment examinations.
Counsel for the petitioners told the court that several candidates were allegedly facing mental harassment in the name of investigation despite having no connection with the alleged irregularities.
The state government filed its response through an affidavit. Counsel for the petitioners sought time to file a counter-affidavit, following which the court fixed October 7 for the next hearing. The court directed the petitioners to file their counter-affidavit within 10 days of receiving the relevant notice.
The government had issued a notification late on August 18 cancelling 22 examinations, postponing the process of six examinations and bringing 17 examinations under investigation.
The cancellation decision had affected candidates selected through several of the examinations. The High Court subsequently granted interim relief in the matter.
The investigation by the CID is continuing, and more than 28 people have so far been arrested, according to the report.
