Mamata greets people on annual Rath Yatra

Kolkata, June 27 (UNI) Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today greeted the people to mark the annual Rath Yatra as people across the state are celebrating the event by offering puja to Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.

In Digha the Chief Minister had also inaugurated a Jagannath temple on April 30 last. The place was also agog with the assembly of thousands of revelers who mark the day for the first time in the sea resort of Purba Medinipur.

The CM has been camping there since Wednesday evening and has met senior officials and her cabinet colleagues. She held a meeting with officials of Digha-Sankarpur Development Authority (DSDA), police and ISKCON monks at the newly constructed Jagannath temple there.

Mamata also announced the timing for drawing the chariots from 2:30 pm. The chariots were already taken out of the temple and were decorated meticulously.

Elsewhere in the state, the festival was celebrated with traditional gaiety. The CM used to draw chariots of ISKCON Rath Yatra, but this year, she herself was involved in the festival at Digha.

Leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari is also participating in the festival.
