Bengal: Seven-Year-Old girl missing after Mahalaya clothing distribution event, rescued from Bowbazar

Kolkata, Oct 11 (UNI) A seven-year-old girl who went missing after attending a clothing distribution programme for the needy on Mahalaya was rescued by Kolkata Police from the Bowbazar police station area late on Friday night following an extensive search operation.
According to police, the girl, a resident of Bhanga Basti under Jorabagan police station, had attended the programme in her locality between 1 pm and 1.30 pm.
However, she didn't return home after the event, prompting her family members to search the neighbourhood.
When their efforts proved unsuccessful, her father, Shambhu Bera, lodged a missing person complaint at Jorabagan police station, providing details of the child.
Police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation.
Officers examined CCTV footage from the area to trace her movements.
Investigators found the girl in CCTV footage from Kumartuli, where she was seen walking along Rabindra Sarani towards Dharmatala.
However, her subsequent movements could not initially be established, following which the matter was brought to the attention of detectives from the Anti-Rowdy Section.
A search operation was subsequently launched under the supervision of Jorabagan police station officer-in-charge Jaydeep Das.
Police personnel, accompanied by the girl's father in a police vehicle, searched several areas, including Chitpur and Kashipur.
They also conducted searches at a market in Baranagar and circulated the girl's photograph to neighbouring police stations to facilitate her identification.
After hours of searching, the girl was traced to an area under Bowbazar police station at around 1 am on Saturday.
She was brought to the police station and subsequently reunited with her family.
A family member thanked the police for their prompt response and sustained efforts to locate the child.
"The police swung into action immediately after the complaint was lodged. A senior officer from the police station went out with the child's father to search for her. We have thanked the police for recovering the girl," the family member said.
