Schools across Mizoram stay shut amid thunderstorm, heavy rain warnings

Aizawl, May 30 (UNI) For the second consecutive day, all educational institutions under the Mizoram school education department remained closed on Friday following warnings of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Deputy commissioners, who also serve as chairpersons of the District Disaster Management Authorities in all 11 districts, issued directives instructing all schools within their respective jurisdictions to remain closed as a precautionary measure to prevent a potential disaster.
The precaution comes as heavy rainfall continues to batter the state, causing one fatality and injuring another person in Aizawl following the collapse of a stone retaining wall. While numerous minor landslides and rockfalls were reported across the state on Friday, they did not result in any permanent road closures.
