Meghalaya Guv, CM pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary

Shillong, Oct 2 (UNI) Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on Friday, marking the freedom fighter's birth anniversary and the International Day of Non-Violence, at Lok Bhavan Shillong.
Vijayashankar recalled the enduring relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of truth, non-violence, compassion and selfless service, which continue to inspire generations in India and across the world.
“His message of peace, tolerance, dialogue and harmonious coexistence remains particularly significant in the present times,” the Governor said.
Noting that the International Day of Non-Violence highlights the continued relevance of Gandhiji’s message, Vijayashankar remarked that at a time when the world faces conflicts, social inequalities, and environmental challenges, the Mahatma's ideals remain as vital as ever.
Vijayashankar also celebrated the 122nd Birth Anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Additional Chief Secretary to Governor H C Chaudhary was also present during the occasion.
In his message on Gandhi Jayanti, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “We pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, whose lifelong dedication to truth, non-violence, and justice remains a source of guidance and inspiration for us all. Let us draw on his teachings and carry his values into our daily lives.”
