BJP holds ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ march in Patna, CM Samrat leads rally

Patna, Oct 28 (UNI) The Bihar unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday organised a ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ march in Patna, with Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, state BJP president Sanjay Saraogi and senior party leaders participating in the programme.
The march began at Kargil Chowk near Gandhi Maidan and proceeded towards the statue of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan near the Maurya Hotel, where Choudhary, Saraogi and other leaders paid floral tributes to the socialist leader.
Addressing a gathering at Kargil Chowk, Choudhary alleged that opposition parties, led by the Congress, were attempting to undermine the country’s democratic and constitutional institutions. He said the people would defeat such attempts and accused the Congress of raising concerns over democracy despite the Emergency imposed during its rule, when civil liberties and fundamental rights were curtailed.
The Chief Minister said India was progressing under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, adding that the government had worked to improve basic amenities, enhance people's dignity and strengthen the country's position internationally. He maintained that voters in a democracy support those who deliver on their promises.
Accusing the Congress of resorting to abusive language after repeated electoral defeats, Choudhary said the alleged derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister’s late parents were unacceptable in a civilised society. He asserted that people would hold accountable those who disrespected democratic values. Referring to the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, Choudhary said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had won 202 seats under the leadership of Modi and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He said the government was committed to fulfilling Modi’s vision of a developed India and Kumar’s vision of a prosperous Bihar.
State BJP president Saraogi accused the Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and other opposition parties of spreading confusion by alleging vote theft. Referring to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, he claimed that the exercise had removed the names of deceased and duplicate voters and questioned the opposition’s objections to the process.
Saraogi alleged that opposition parties questioned electronic voting machines (EVMs) and electoral procedures after losing elections but did not raise similar concerns when their candidates won. He also criticised their remarks on the judiciary and other constitutional institutions, saying that political disagreement should not lead to personal attacks or baseless allegations.
Announcing the next phase of the campaign, Saraogi said marches would be organised at 10 divisional headquarters across Bihar. BJP national president Nitin Nabin is scheduled to attend the programme in Bhagalpur on November 2, while Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to participate in the Purnia programme on November 4. Similar events will be held at other divisional headquarters, including Darbhanga, followed by programmes at district headquarters and meetings with intellectuals in every Assembly constituency.
The party plans to take the campaign to villages and local communities to highlight what it describes as opposition attempts to create political disorder and undermine democratic institutions.
Bihar ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha, Ram Kripal Yadav, Dilip Jaiswal, Pramod Chandravanshi and Nitish Mishra, Patna MP and former union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, legislators, members of the Legislative Council, party office-bearers and a large number of workers, including women, participated in the march.
