CM calls for collective participation in building a prosperous Bihar

Patna, Sep 20 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Sunday called for collective participation in the state's development, asserting that the Lav-Kush community seeks to move forward with justice and contribute to Bihar's prosperity and the country's growth.
Addressing the inaugural session of the Viksit Bihar: Neev Se Nirman Tak brainstorming conference-cum-Lav-Kush Pratibha Samman Samaroh, organised by the Progressive Intellectual Association, Choudhary said the foundation of Lav-Kush social unity was laid in 1994 and continues to remain intact. "The Lav-Kush community is not against anyone. It wants to move ahead with justice and play its role in the prosperity of Bihar and the development of the country," he said.
Recalling the social mobilisation that preceded the 1994 Lav-Kush conference, the Chief Minister said the Kurmi Chetna Rally and Kushwaha Conference held in 1992-93 were followed by the joint Lav-Kush conference in 1994. He congratulated the leaders who initiated the process, saying the social unity subsequently acquired a political dimension and played an important role in strengthening political parties associated with it.
Choudhary said the time had come to translate the vision of a developed India and prosperous Bihar into reality. He attributed the vision of a developed India to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that of a prosperous Bihar to former chief minister Nitish Kumar, adding that efforts were being made to achieve these goals.
Highlighting Bihar's historical legacy, the Chief Minister said the state had been home to great rulers such as Chandragupta Maurya and Emperor Ashoka, who had given direction to India and the wider world. He stressed the need to showcase Bihar's historical and cultural heritage more prominently before the global community.
Choudhary also highlighted changes in Bihar's economy and infrastructure since 2005. Referring to the period following the bifurcation of Bihar and Jharkhand, he said Bihar's economy had earlier been substantially dependent on revenue from the mineral-rich areas that became part of Jharkhand, but its budget had now grown significantly.
According to the figures cited by him, Jharkhand presented a budget of Rs 1.39 lakh crore in 2024, while Bihar''s budget stood at Rs 3.17 lakh crore.
On education, Choudhary said teaching had commenced simultaneously in 211 degree colleges on July 15. He also said 700 model schools, described as Saraswati Vidya Niketans, had been established, with around 3.5 lakh students enrolled. He said 75,000 teachers had been connected through the ''Vidyarthi Sathi'' app, through which online education was also being provided to students at night. At present, around 1.42 lakh students were studying through the platform during night hours, he claimed.
The Chief Minister also referred to several tourism, cultural and religious infrastructure projects. Work is underway to develop a grand corridor at Bodh Gaya, while an initiative has been taken to construct a Lav-Kush Park in Valmiki Nagar at an estimated cost of around Rs 60 crore.
He said work on the construction of a grand Sita temple in Sitamarhi was also progressing. The foundation stone for the project, estimated to cost around Rs 1,000 crore, has been laid, he said, adding that the temple would be established before December 31, 2028.
Choudhary said the government's objective was not only to take Bihar to new heights of development but also to bring its rich history, culture and heritage to the attention of the world.
Using the example of the five fingers, he said individual strength was limited when the fingers remained separate, but together they formed a fist and demonstrated the strength of unity. "Let us all work together to build a developed and glorious Bihar," the Chief Minister said, reiterating his government's commitment to taking everyone along on the path of development.
