Patna, June 25 (UNI) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary today said emergency imposed in 1975 by the then Congress government is black chapter of democracy as constituency was trampled during the period.

Chaudhary while addressing a function organised to mark emergency imposed by the then Congress government on June 25, 1975, said this day was black day and entire period of emergency of 19 months , was considered as black chapter of democracy in the country. Baba Bheem Rao Ambedkar had prepared constituency in 1949 and it was implemented on January 26, 1950 but fifty years later, all rights given to people of the country in constitution, was trampled during the emergency period, he added.

"Leave aside citizens rights, even freedom of press was strangulated but Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is now trying to create a narrative that constitution is in danger ", the Deputy Chief Minister said, adding that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, then as young socialist leader was put behind bars during emergency. Kumar was lodged in Buxar and Hazaribagh jail but as young leader, he had pledged to ensure reservation to women in Panchayati Raj institutions, he pointed out.

"When Nitish Kumar became Chief Minister of Bihar in 2005, his government had given 50 percent reservation to women in Panchayati Raj institutions ", Chaudhary said adding that a number of steps were taken for women empowerment by NDA government headed by Chief Minister Kumar. Bihar was the first state to give fifty percent reservation to women in Panchayati Raj institutions, he pointed out.

"Those who had opposed emergency, are now sitting in lap of Congress and younger generation should know it clearly", Deputy Chief Minister said making an oblique reference to RJD chief Lalu Prasad whose party was in alliance with Congress since long and both have been contesting together Lok Sabha and Bihar assembly elections.

People should remain alert from such leaders who joined hands Congress for power, he cautioned. UNI KKS SSP
