SIR in Bihar, attempt of BJP to deprive voters of their rights: Congress

Patna, June 29 (UNI) The Congress today alleged that ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar was an attempt of BJP to deprive a large number of voters from exercising their franchise in next state assembly elections to be held in October-November this year.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress MP of Rajya Sabha, Digvijay Singh, told media persons here that SIR of electoral rolls was an attempt of BJP to prevent a large number of people from voting in next state assembly elections.

BJP had sensed the fact that the party was losing its mass base and to influence the results in its favour, names of large number of people, apparently those not supporters of the party, would be deleted from voters' list in the name of revision of electoral rolls, he alleged.

"BJP is operating through Election Commission to tamper with electoral rolls in its favour," Congress leader alleged and asked how such a massive exercise of SIR in Bihar could be completed in just 28 days, using the 11 documents to prove the claims of voters to get enrolled in voters' list.

"Poor, tribals, youths, flood-affected people and those who migrated to other states in search of their livelihood, would be deprived of their voting rights," Singh said, adding that people of Bihar would not tolerate such sinister design of BJP to tamper with electoral rolls.

BJP was all set to lose power in Bihar, he predicted.
