EC demand for Bihar voter list revision is mockery of democracy and Constitution: Tejaswi

Patna, June 27 (UNI) Dubbing the Election Commission's (EC) announcement of special intensive revision of the voters list in Bihar as a "mockery of democracy and the Constitution", the leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejaswi Prasad Yadav asked the EC to explain the sudden need for the revision of eight crore voters in 25 days before the elections.
Accompanied by the leaders of the Grand Alliance (GA). Yadav told news persons here today that the decision indicates a conspiracy for scrapping the the names of the poor, the oppressed, the deprived, the backward, the extremely backward, the Dalits, the tribals and the minorities from the voter list.
He claimed that the decision has been taken in view of the possible defeat of the Nitish-BJP and NDA in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.
He said that 73 percent of people in Bihar live in flood affected areas and under the given situation it will not be possible for them to present their documents to ensure that their name is not deleted from the voter list. He alleged that the list of 90 percent voters has not been given to the employees engaged in the revision of voters.
Anti-constitutional and anti-democratic activities were being carried out in Bihar and a conspiracy was being hatched to snatch away the voting rights of the poor, the oppressed and the deprived, he alleged.
Demanding an explanation for not getting the revision done after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he said the EC wants a thorough revision of eight crore voters in Bihar within 25 days, whereas the thorough revision done 22 years ago took two years.
Yadav said the "Modi government should explain why the voters list on which the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 was conduct is not being recognised now. He said if the government is honest in this matter, it should declare the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as illegal".
No political party was taken into confidence before taking this decision, Yadav said, adding that the leaders would meet the Election Commission on this issue and demand that the revision be stopped with immediate effect.
Giving details of the technicalities involved and the hurdles in the revision of the voters list, Yadav alleged that it is an attempt to encroach on the rights of the common people whom the government was suppressing.
Outlining the demographic details and the migration of the people from Bihar, the RJD leader alleged that the BJP and RSS were constantly trying to encroach upon the constitutional rights of the citizens. He said the people would not tolerate any conspiracy hatched in the name of voters list revision.
Addressing the media persons Congress State president Rajesh Ram alleged that an attempt was being made to tamper with the Bihar Assembly Elections on the pattern of Maharashtra elections.
Congress national spokesperson Pawan Kheda alleged that "at the time of crisis NDA government utilises the Election Commission".
He said the government has been showing Modi's master stroke by using the Election Commission in its own interest, while the surveys coming in Bihar show that the NDA is in a weak position and the GA seems to be forming the government.
The leaders of GA including Dipankar Bhattacharya of CPIML, Rambabu Kumar of CPI, Arun Kumar of CPIM and Dev Jyoti of VIP also addressed the media persons.
