Jharkhand’s Brajmohan Ram’s appointment as Odisha Governor cheers family, neighbours

Ranchi, Oct 13 (UNI) The appointment of former BJP MP Brajmohan Ram as Odisha Governor has triggered celebrations among his family members, neighbours and supporters in Chandwa block of Jharkhand’s Latehar district, where he was born.
Jharkhand BJP president Aditya Sahu met Ram at his Morabadi residence in Ranchi and congratulated him on the appointment.
Sahu expressed confidence that Ram’s political and public life experience would contribute to Odisha’s development, governance and public welfare.
Ram, who hails from Kanchan Nagri in Chandwa, was elected to the Lok Sabha from Palamu three times, in 1996, 1998 and 1999, and served as an MLA from Latehar after winning a Bihar Assembly by-election in 1991.
His family members and neighbours expressed happiness over his appointment, announced on October 12. His son Amit Kumar said the family was delighted and had never imagined that one of its members would become a Governor.
He attributed the appointment to his father’s commitment to the BJP and his emphasis on honesty.
Neighbours also welcomed the announcement, describing it as a matter of pride for Chandwa, the Palamu division and Jharkhand. They said Ram had maintained a simple demeanour despite holding elected positions.
Local BJP workers celebrated the appointment by exchanging sweets. Former Latehar Nagar Panchayat vice-chairman Naveen Kumar Sinha and senior BJP leader Rajan Tiwari led the gathering, which was attended by social worker Sachchidanand Prasad and others.
Ram entered electoral politics when the BJP fielded him in the 1991 Latehar Assembly by-election, which he won by around 1,100 votes. He later won three consecutive Lok Sabha elections from Palamu before losing in 2004. He contested the Latehar Assembly seat again in 2014 but was defeated.
Ram’s family said he would visit the Nagar Bhagwati temple in Chandwa on Wednesday to offer prayers and meet local residents.
