Tripura BJP to hold rally backing SIR on Oct 31

Agartala, Oct 28 (UNI) The Tripura BJP has decided to launch a public mobilisation programme in Agartala on October 31 to defend the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and counter criticism from Opposition parties.
The rally, to be held under the slogan Save Democracy, End Autocracy, is expected to be part of the party’s broader political outreach ahead of upcoming elections in the state.
After a detailed meeting at the State Guest House in the presence of state BJP president and MLA Abhishek Debroy, the decision was taken today.
Speaking after the meeting, Debroy accused the Opposition of creating public confusion through what he described as provocative statements and rumours about the electoral roll revision exercise. He said the BJP would take its position directly to the people and mobilise support for the process.
Countering the Opposition’s objections, Debroy argued that electoral roll revisions were not new and had been carried out under successive governments. He claimed that the exercise had been conducted 12 times across the country, including 10 times during Congress rule at the Centre, and that an earlier revision in Tripura had taken place under the CPI(M)-led government.
Debroy questioned what he described as the Opposition’s changed stance and said the October 31 programme would allow the BJP to publicly challenge its allegations.
Preparations were underway to organise the rally systematically, he added, with the party expecting participation from supporters and members of the public.
The participation of senior leaders, elected representatives and organisational functionaries reflected the meeting’s dual focus on the party’s immediate response to the SIR controversy and its wider electoral preparations.
The BJP is expected to intensify its organisational activities and public outreach in the coming weeks as it seeks to consolidate its support base and respond to Opposition criticism on electoral and political issues.
